Who or What is BUENOSTYLE?Christi York
is a Vancouver based jewelry designer, graphic designer, photographer,
and big believer in recycling, organic food and supporting locally owned
designers & businesses. With a background in graphic design,
her instinctive, inherent artistic ability really shines in her newer
endeavor as a jewelry designer. Christi uses recycled,
vintage and eco-concious materials wherever possible. Former accessory
lines included one of a kind “rescued sweater” scarves made from
thrift store wool sweaters and leather cuffs and earrings made from
scrap leather castoffs. And
of course, the now infamous “eat
organic”
screen printed line of organic cotton panties! Her discovery of treasure-troves
of vintage beads was the inspiration for the BuenoStyle line
of re-worked jewelry. Vintage beads offer an allure that just can’t
be found in any modern bead store. Launched in January 2007, the line
uses mostly vintage discontinued glass and brass filigrees, beads & lockets from the 1920’s to the 80’s. You could
say the BuenoStyle features limited edition, “one-of-a-few”
pieces. The OAK line
of jewelry, launched Fall 2008, is quite simply One-of-A-Kind. Each
OAK piece is unique unto itself and will never be repeated. Each
accessory is built upon items (such as vintage rhinestone brooches) sourced & salvaged from her travels
to form an exclusive piece of jewelry. Intriguing found object such
as escutcheons (key hole plates), vintage brass curtain rings, or antique glass drawer are all fair game.
A necklace from the OAK line always makes a statement. Do you have some
favorite old pieces of jewelry passed on to you from your family? Christi
can take your piece (brooches, old clip earrings, etc) and turn it into
a custom bracelet or necklace. With travels to the
vintage bead warehouses in New York, and trips to Europe, she hopes
to bring back many many treasures to share with both her Vancouver and global
collectors. She happily creates
new pieces every afternoon at her studio in Vancouver’s hip Main Street
neighbourhood. |
